Trying to Get Boarding Passes For “Rise of the Resistance”? Let us show you.

So you’ve been trying to get in a boarding pass for the “Rise of the Resistance” attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and have not had any luck. Don’t feel bad, many veteran Disney fans have not been able to get a boarding pass either, even though it has been months since the attraction opened to the public.

We have a trick, or shall we say a work-around that helped my family gain two boarding passes on the two days that we were visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios on our recent visit to Disney World during July, 2021.

OK, there are actually two steps in the hack to get a boarding pass the the “Rise of the Resistance” attraction in Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. And to make it even better, they are very easy to do.

The first thing that you need to do is make sure that you wake up with enough time to grab your boarding pass in time. As you know, they go very quickly. On our trip, we made sure that we were up at least an hour and a half before Disney’s Hollywood Studios opens to visitors.

In the past, you actually had to be inside of Disney’s Hollywood Studios gate to gain a boarding pass. Disney has since relaxed this to where you have to actually be on Disney World property. Whether in the parking lot or at one of their resorts (We we able to get both passes from our room at Pop Century).

About 5 minutes before an hour, before the park opens, turn off Disney WiFi on your mobile device. You want to turn off the WiFi and make sure that you are on LTE, 4G or 5G, depending on your phone. You want to do this for two reasons. Number one, Disney World’s WiFi is horrible. Number two, there are going to be thousands of people trying to get only a couple of hundred boarding passes. This amount of traffic will bottleneck Disney World’s WiFi and slow your mobile device down to the point that you will probably not get a boarding pass.

And the last thing that you will want to do is at one hour before the park opens, start hitting the MyDisney app on your mobile device. If you even wait 2 or 3 minutes, you may not get a boarding pass and have to wait until the afternoon when more boarding passes are usually released.

If you are unsuccessful first thing in the morning, try this system again when more boarding passes are released in the afternoon (usually 1PM). The biggest key to this hack that not many know about is turning off the WiFi.

Good luck and enjoy the ride. It is VERY good and worth the wait.

  • Rise of the Resistance Boarding Group Issues

On Sunday, August 30, Guests of Disney’s Hollywood Studios reported that the My Disney Experience App unexpectedly “opened” before 9:30am although the app was not allowing anyone to join the queue.

At 10am, when guest should have been able to sign in and join a queue, the app was still not allowing anyone to join.

Disney is aware of the issue and it is reported that a Nationwide CenturyLink Outage was the cause of the issue for Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Rise of the Resistance boarding functionality was restored by noon.

Unfortunately for guests, within 30 minutes of the ride becoming operational, there was an issue with the Kylo Ren encounter which caused guests to view an alternate final scene featuring “B-Mode”.

  • FastPass+ Teirs to Change at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

FastPass+ Teirs to Change at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

With the recent openings of two new major attractions and a third coming in March, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be currently changing its FastPass+ tier structure.

Currently, there are two tiers for FastPass+ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  When booking a FastPass there, you may only choose one attraction from Tier 1 and two from Tier 2.  The main complaint about this current structure is that the following rides are all located within Tier 1

    • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™
    • Aerosmith’s Rock n Rollercoaster
    • Slinky Dog Dash Rollercoaster
    • Toy Story Mania!
    • Alien Swirling Saucers

These are the major rides in which guests visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Alas, there is a change coming and it seems as though Disney may have listened to the thousands and thousands of complaints about the way the rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios were structured.

As of February 19, 2020, there will only be two rides listed as Tier 1 for FastPass+ and they are:

    • Slinky Dog Dash Rollercoaster
    • Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run (Yes, as of February 19th, FastPasses may be booked for this attraction.)

This means that all other rides, Tower of Terror, Rock n Rollercoaster and even Toy Story Mania are now Tier 2 attractions.  This is a tremendous option now for those that are visiting Hollywood Studios.

Don’t forget, you are not limited to just three FastPasses a day.  Once you have exhausted the three that you have chosen, you can search using the MyDisney App or one of the many kiosks for any available FastPasses.  This can be done in any of the four parks.  We have actually been able to reserve as many as 14 FastPasses in a single day.

Now with Mickey’s Runaway Railroad slated to open in March, I think that it is a safe bet that it will be a Tier 1 FastPass and very difficult to get at first.

So there you go, riding the attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be come much easier come February 19th and I think it is also safe to say that DHS is no longer a half-day park.

Thanks for taking the time to read this article.  Please let us know how your feel about this new policy and if you think that there may be any changes to Epcot’s tiered FastPass+ structure in the near future with their additions of the Guardians of the Galaxy Rollercoaster, the Ratatouille ride and all of the new attractions coming to Epcot over the next five year.
