The long awaited announcement for the opening day of the newest land “Toy Story Land” in Walt Disney World’s Hollywood
Studios was made in New York City this morning.
The large construction project is 1 on 2 major expansions currently underway within Hollywood Studios. The other, which is “Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge” is expected to open to visitors sometime during late Spring or Early Summer of 2019.
Video Courtesy of Disney Parks YouTube Toy Story Land is to be set in Andy’s Backyard with theming set to make visitors feel as though they are the size of toys. It will feature two new attractions, “The Slinky Dog Rollercoaster” and “Aliens Swirling Saucers”. Slinky Dog is supposed to be a family style rollercoaster similar to the “Seven Dwarfs Minecoaster” currently located in the Magic Kingom’s Fantasyland and Aliens Swirling Saucers is rumored to be similar to “Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree” located in Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim, CA.
The new area will also have a newly relocated entry for “Toy Story Mania”, the 3D arcade shooting style dark ride which is one of the most popular attractions at the Hollywood Studios Theme Park. The relocation of the entrance to Toy Story Mania should alleviate much of the crowd congestion that has occurred in the Pixar Place area of Hollywood Studios due to Toy Story Mania’s often 100+ minute wait times.
Clearing up the congestion was a priority due to the entrance for Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge will be just beyond Pixar Place.
This morning (2/16/2018) Disney announced that Toy Story Land would be open to the public on June 30, 2018. If you are currently a DVC member or an Annual Passholder, look for soft openings at the end of May or early June.
